maxon v12- vray information:

hi all, yes v12 will be released officially today

so i can now speak. a few hours later i will write an official info announcement:

maxon has 2 phases of a totally rewrite of almost all parts of cinema4d code. the first stage was 11.5 and the second is v12. this is mostly internal code improvements for the future, so not visible for the users, but very important and a good move from maxon we believe. (it will make very good things possible for future, also important hings like real units already in v12(great for vray). the move is to full double precision code (this more severe as from 32 to 64 bit in many ways)

the 1.2.5 update is a promised in between update and its release has nothing connected to v12 directly.

the big drawback is that for plugin developers, specially for plugins that go and connect very deep with the cinema4d sdk, this means a lot of extra work and also rewrite in almost every part of the plugin. some more easy plugins (like our rhino.io) are already v12 compatible, others will take more time.

this means the v12 adaption will take some time, for all developers, specially for vrayforc4d.
we worked on that already as maxon is so kind to give us early betas from all their products. we have therefore a semi working version internally, but on many parts it isnt yet fully functioning(materials in special)

we tried to learn from the 11.5 waiting, and as the 11.5 already brought many adaptions for us, we have made some of that homework already in last 11.5 changes. so we very much hope the adaption to the new cinema4d code will take a lot shorter and not 4 extra months like in 11.5.

we are fully aware you all wait for a v12 compatible vray asap, you can imagine we also want that for sales reasons too.

i will try to regularly give info about the state of the v12 update.
it will be free of course to all users.
we know all want it urgent.

p.s it was promised by maxon developers that future updates like 11.5,13,... will be normal updates again, which are easy to adapt plugin, so the unusual and uncomfortable wait is only for this very special maxon updates 11.5 and 12.

Dear Users,

as many ask me this days about when an estimated release date of the v12 will be i post here and estimate and how the situation is:

we have an almost fully beta running here, only the units have to be final connected yet and a few things have to be cleaned up. so a release is not far away. some of you might have seen the v12 already at 3dpowerstore event last week in germany. after last things are made and testing is going fine we will release the first v12 compatible version to all.

we will try to release this version as 1.2.5.5 in roughly 2-3 weeks time frame. please note this is an ESTIMATE from todays few, so you can make your plans etc.
estimate can change, but it is quite likely it will be released then if nothing unexpected occurs.

a version vrayforc4d 1.2.5.2 will for 10.5-11-5 will come next week, it is a service release.

Thanks a lot for the information regarding the next release. I have to ask the same thing as nycL45 before. Will future updates include 11.5 for some time? Right now we haven't made the switch to R12 as we need vray on a daily basis but i need to do some planning as i like to include R12 in our workflow soon.

regarding c4d versions:

from c4d sdk we will be for sure be able to support 11 & 11.5 for long time, also in v2.0.

sdk 10.5 does have a few problems at the 3rdparty engine support.
so situation of the old 10.x sdk is not clear yet. if the sdk misses some features we use it might have to end some time. the differences are very big for all before 11.

so users with 11 or 11.5 will be able to use also new vray versions for longer time.
people with v10.5 might plan to update some time next year to be able to use all vray functions or new versions.

the amount of work and wait time is due to maxon, not because of us. we do as fast as possible. vray is one of the most complex plugins in that regards available and needs most work+time therefore.


but yes i can guarantee, some here in the forum use it already (beta)
they are just not allowed to tell it;-)
it was also showed fully working at 3dpowerstore event 2 weeks ago in germany.

some few things have to be made and streamlined, but basically in 98% its is ready and working.

p.s yes we have an alpha or early beta of c4d 12 since 2009, but the sdk was fully usable an documented only since this summer, this was the time we have started with the V-ray rewrite. it really is an hefty amount of extra work that maxon provided us with 11,5 and 12. the code transition is over though then and the next maxon updates 13,14,15 etc will be easy again as they had been before 11.5

this is in 11.5 and 12 as maxon has made this unusual deep code changes, which breaks all.

this is all thanks to maxon, not our fault at all. we have the huge amount extra work, the user the wait. it is not comfortable for anybody, but we cannot change it. maxon promised this is the last of those updates, the future c4d updates will be easy as they had be before 11.5.

last time we did not hand out betas, and people complained, this time we do and also some will complain. obvious it is impossible to make all happy. those who wanted to beta get it this time and are happy with it from the feedback i got from them. therefore its good for those at least.

from reaction and user feedback, and from sales i see it is not bad for business at all by the way, but thanks for taking care.

there is no direct link for betas, never had been. (if you want it just email us with the v12 number)
we give out betas always just like that.
for now it was only so many asked me about the beta, so i gave it out as it is a very good version already.
i see no reason to hold this back if users can use it.

I addressed my email to info@vrayforc4d.com and included my serial number for R12. Don't forget to the word VRayForC4D in the subject line of your email or their spam filter will reject it. I am guessing they are really overwhelmed with requests.

I think releasing beta to current users a few weeks early is a good policy because it gives us a chance to become familiar with new features and it takes some pressure off VRay developers.

the release 1.2.5.5 is mainly a service release and the compatibility of v12 of course.

but we also added a new core again that lets do all colormapping types again and has many further improvements on all parts of the engine. (core 2.0 already! ;-)
also of course fixes of things reported in 1.2.5.1

some nice features we addes though:
a material based meshlight, you can trasnform the brdf into a ful meshlight with lumen and watt intensities. so you can save your favorite lights in the material manager and simple drag and drop onto objects

a retrace option in LC gi, this is a vray 2.0 feature we also bring in advance. it makes LC much more easy to setup in many scenes, also in very complicated ones. and it makes the use of LC glossy interpolations much easier and more reliable too.

the volume fog can now be easy used to make fake volume light in very high quality and super speed ( i add a scene so you can see how to make) and you can make great "god rays", now working very good, light beams through windows etc, this also again has been greatly speed up. we also added animation support in the volume fog noise.

also we added relative ies light support (relative proxies will also come in 1.3)

on v12 side we support the ies preview from v12 which is very nice to setup and support of the new real v12 units system, this is very usefull for netrender and also all other rendering, one of the best v12 features:-)

this is at the moment not possible, but on the to do list, to my knowledge in a coming v12 update it will be possible, at some point this certainly will come in some way. for now you could use the PTEX plugin, it makes this, with some other great pro features:

it is also vray compatible, this also deformed and sticks to any object deformer. also multi resolutions textures etc.

During the last weeks i've tried to get in contact with you to request a R12 key and R12-Beta of vray. I've sent my mails (4 of them) to info[at]vrayforc4d[dot]com, using "vray" and "vrayforc4d" in the subject and including the old c4d serials and my new R12 serial.
Unfortunately I got no reply so far. Am I using the wrong email-address or doing anything else wrong?
I would be grateful for a hint...

everybody can download the update there. we also inserted all beta feedback we got, thanks a lot!

the official release will be when we are back from short holidays, we need some short time with family. full support opens at 5.1. again.

please see the download 1.2.5.5. section note, if you need the 32 bit fix email us along with your user data and you get it.
it was posted here at all forums, 1.2.5.5. threads etc
we also keep the 32bit win version for at least until end of this year (or until users need/want it), as it seems still some users have win 32bit computers (on OSX all versions are full 64bit already)

We had to update Windows 7 to SP-1 and were very busy last month.
After read Stefan's reply, I have tried to send e-mails, however I purchased via Chaos JP(I cannot get NEW 1.2.5.5 from there, in addition, I have gotten very poor support from this local shop).

For us, end-users of vray, please release NEW 1.2.5.5 on web.
(I feel this way is very fair and friendly for us)

and no matter where you bought it from, support is from US (the producer of vrayforc4d) not the reseller. so everybody who bought it get it of course.

if you are a customer dont worry you get it. 1.2.5.5 IS officially available since long.
we do all support for out software (not the reseller),

In the past 2 months, Stefan posted that vray for c4d 1.2.5.5 (fixed vers, ie, NEW one) would be uploaded in future. I remember at least I read similar post twice, and I have been waiting for it.
(so, I asked please show us the road-map, etc.., and use the word "friendly")

i also confirm OAK is a very good reseller, we know good feedback from many customers of them.
just to make this clear.

we will close this subject now and see (internally) if the user ship of Boa Kwan can be verified as real user or not. so back to topic.

i collect here all data in tread before closing it (as it has fulfilled its initial purpose) :

1) vrayforc4d 1.2.5.5 has been released since end of December, see the download section in forum

2) for the initial error of the win 32bit protection, the fix is available since January, if you needed it email us with user data (=real name & first 11 digits of c4d serial), we then send you, all legal users can get it. see also the download section info.

3) as said in other threads the forthcoming service release 1.2.5.6 will be announced in new thread when available

for any direct support email us, as usual, with user data please (support is only for real users of course), the resellers also forward/translate questions to us if needed
