i found the IOR for nylon, and it's 1.52. how do i go about getting this into a decent vray material? it should have a little bit of transparency, but only slightly. this is for a tent material.

thanks!

hello sketchbook,

I thought I'd have a go at creating a tent canvas material for you.

This is a simple scene with a ground plane, two tents, a sun/sky light and a area in one of the tents.

The material uses SSS. It may not be exactly what you want, but I'm sure if you play around with it you may get something usable.

Hi sketch,

if you get to create the material you want, can you please give us a look as I would be interested to know how you went about it.

thanx

Try converting a few of those Cloth materials in the C4D example files.
There's all kinds of Nylon variations in there and they do translate pretty well with a little tweaking.

thanks. not really the texture i am needing so much as the way the material reacts with light, etc.

this tent is made of ripstop nylon, and the sides of course you can't see through, but the light goes through really well. anything within a few inches of the side you can sort of see.

note the hanging pocket on the ceiling above the door. you can see it's shape pretty well.

i am wanting to create a material like this within vray and habn't a clue as to how to get it to come out right.

i am pretty desperate!

thanks!
