any tips for speeding up rendering transparent materials?
buttons not to press, options to turn off?

Hello :)

Do you mean a button that prevent to render the transparent materials?

Maybe good for the wishlist :)

Hi renato,
I mean I'd like to know if certain option should be avoided otherwise the render will get bogged down. I'm coming to realize that if you had a second specular layer on a transparency the render time is multiplied by 50.
I don't know what is and what isn't time consuming to renderin vray.

can you send me the file to the info[at]vrayforc4d.com email.

that normally should render just fine. i can look at your settings

Whilst on the subject of transparency, im finding it hard to get a decent level of transmittance through my glass. I am testing vray with a model of a school I did recently and there is an internal steet (with atrium) with planar glazing into the classrooms looking into the street. The light is getting through the atrium glass but the internal glass is very dark like its tinted. but when i render it without the glass there is plenty of light getting into the classrooms. What is the best way to allow more light through the glass?

Cheers.

check the volume settings, the stanadr might be too much volume for arch.

for so called archglass material deactivate the volume, it is not needed all time. also make sure to activate the affect alpha & affect shadow button.

Also when you make glass remember to use fresnel for the reflections. If you use volume (that should always be used), for thin glasses use a very low density (amount). The diffuse layer should be also unchecked (you need it only when producing SSS materials).
Be careful on the use of too low value for the Reflection glossiness as well (even if vray can render blurred reflections incredibly fast).
Don't worry, when you'll master the VrayMaterial editor you'll find his real power and you'll see that probably no other renderer can render transparency and refraction effect as fast and with great quality as vray.

Cheers
Daniele
