Hey everyone,
My friend and I are going to sit down with C4D this weekend and get some vray mats done. Is there anything that people are really interested in? We need ideas for interesting mats. We will share them as soon as they are all done.
Thanks all!!! :D

I think someone already showed us a really nice marble material in another post...looks really good too! As far as other SSS mats, myabe like a gummi bear or jade?

well... since you asked... I haven't been able to get the velvet materials (you know, the CGTalk ones) to convert and render very nice. Something about the way the Fresnel is acting in VRay is eluding me. :?
You asked for it
Rubber, the kind that is on normal tires, racing tires (you know, those flat ones for good grip when it is hot)and those yellowish SSS wheels you can see on some types of roller-skates.
Good car materials, car paint and car windows. Not only flaked car paint but also that smooth car paint that is on your every day car and then that high gloss finish you see over airbrushed car surfaces.
Wall materials, or maybe I should say “architectural materials”. But realistic ones white walls in different structures.
Wood, procedural that is. Not that grainy stuff but wood types you would find on normal furniture, high gloss and mat finished white oak.
Good glass materials in different categories like wine glasses, windows, crystal, glass spheres etc.
Leathers, all kinds of leather materials.
Metals, chrome, mat metals, shiny metals, high reflective, blurred etc.
Well I think you get the idea, I’m personally interested in any good car materials from top to bottom. I’ve seen more than enough rooms on this forum, I think it is time for something else.
Oh and please if you will make sure that you name the materials not only Vray1,Vray 2 etc but try to describe the materials.
I wish you both lots of success and above all lots of fun!

Nice architectural materials is good also. I also agree with rene about proper labeling of the material.
Looking forward these.

Edit: Just thought of one: Rusted Metal. :D

ok..lol. I guess I did ask for it.
Well, I have a wedding to attend tomorrow but the rest of my weekend is all for vray and c4d stuff. I cant promise by monday but I'll do my best guys and gals! ;)
I'll try to get to as many as the ideas as possible. The yellow skate wheels and rubber tires are great ideas. I have to be honest, metal is a little easy and I think everyone should stant with making their own "metal" material. The velvet is also a great idea! I have vray for Max9 and I was going to try to learn from the settings there but they are a bit different.
We will do our best here folks...so hold tight!@! :D

You go, chachi! Looking forward to seeing velvet that looks soft and thick instead of the cheap velour look I keep getting.

Grass would be nice :). Only shader-based, so no tiles visible in long distance and detailed in short distance. One material used without Displacement and one for use with Displ and also Displ. material.
I dont want grass in country but that in city lawns - maintained but not totally perfect - with only a few places where ground is visible.
Maybe also perfect grass for house gardens...

yes, a selection of urban grasses would be great.
also, a selection of various water shaders, from a turbulent ocean, to a calmer ocean, to a lake on a windy day to a normal pond or calm pool. oh yeah, swimming pool waters too.

daan,
try the Green Jello mat I posted last night. It looks somewhat close.....might just have to mess with the SSS and diffuse color a bit but nothing too much....

I can host these and any other Materials anyone wants to post until they get their repository here done. I can make a simple page for them and give the author credit along with a thumbnail and large preview.
Just let me know and I will set it up. I hate Rapidshare myself but it's an option.

Hi @ all,
perhaps you know Cryptload, its a download-manager for one-click-hoster like rapidshare. Every version of Cryptload contains a green figure, which we want to animate now. We created the body with polygons, finished the joints but we are failing with the texture. The original pictures are rendered with vray which took me to the thought to use vray also. The texture is really simple but I am a beginner in 3d modeling and so I need help. The "saver" of our animation plan gets two rapidshare.com 1month accounts.

Should have a file loaded here in a little bit!! :D

Here is my first try at it. The yellow highlights get brighter depending on the "falloff" settings in the diffuse layer 2 channel and the model itself that the material is applied to.
Getting the yellow to fall into place was the real challenge here. Other than that it seemed like a basic polished porcelin look with tight specular reflections.
Hope that helps!! ;)

....stupid mediafire....gonna just wait for the material repository.
Are there issues with download links for vray/C4D materials? Are there very many materials to make available? I have some excess storage space/bandwidth on my sites, I might be able to host some files while we're waiting for a proper repository. If I got the files by email I could post 'em.

has anyone considered posting materials on c4dtextures.com ?
yes, the site interface is pretty bad, but if people would use it maybe we could have some nice organization?
the vray repository ready, it will be open in J2008, i think
 i like it, and yes it have flash

Hi all :)
I have a request about a material.
I'm trying to get a realistic record vinyl. With Cinema4D standard material, time ago, I've obtained it using an Anisotropic material.
I saw that in VRay material compositor there's the possibility to have Anisotropic effect, but I can't obtain a realistic vinyl anyway.
Someone can help me? :)
cheers. ;)
