Hi guys, not sure if this is the place to ask this question but here goes anyway.
What price should some one ask for with regards to interior scenes. I have been asked this by a developer, currency is Euros. Just an idea on the pricing and how some of you guys charge i.e per scene, project etc.
thanks,
Regards,
George

LOL !! Best question I've seen on here so far !! I'm not as brave as you so I'll just say that it's a good idea to offer three prices. ''Well - we can do a fairly basic scene for 'x' euros - a midrange quality for 'y' euros - or the Rolls Royce version for 'z' euros ''. This gives you a realistic idea of what the client wants to spend before they beat you down to 'w' euros because they can get it done in China for next to 'F' all euros :D
Georgess - at the end of the day you could spend a couple of days on a scene or a couple of weeks depending on the quality required - therefore the above approach tries to ascertain what the client wants to spend rather than what you are going to charge.
Any other takers ...... I'd love to know what people charge !!!! In fact I'd pay. Anyone finding they are having to lower prices because of 'certain countries' knocking stuff out overnight in arc viz sweat-shops on mountains of unlicenced software ......

offer a good reliable service and good quality work = good money. Always. If they want to screw you down - don't bother - probably going to be bad payers anyway.
Talk to your client and tell them why your work is worth what your asking them to pay - most people don't want to pay the cheapest price - would you buy the cheapest pair of shoes you could find - probably not as they would be crap. Always value yourself 'cos if you don't others won't either. Fact.
Work out what you realistically want to earn.
Most people of any worth don't want to deal with people on the other side of the planet because they can save a few bucks - our business is a people business and clients seem to like regular contact with someone they can get to know.

Agree with what you're saying J - and this would certainly be the case with some of my clients. However, the big volume house builders, local authorities, etc; just don't think like that on the whole. I wish they did ! Their bottom line, unfortunately, is often the price and they don't appear to care at all about quality. Just look at some of the crap that the UK house builders use in their marketing. If in any doubt - I have had several of them sign off on preliminary 'sketch' images !
I would also add that I have indeed come across 'middle men' in the UK outsourcing to overseas companies. I was also recently at a studio in the UK staffed totally with young guys from all corners of the globe working for next to nothing (and brilliant at what they were doing I add). Therefore, you have to accept that some clients will be using a cheaper, overseas workforce without even knowing it ! This is why I suggest the 'three' tier approach to cover all angles and try and 'guage' what they are realistically looking to spend. The way I see it - if you quote 2000x and their budget was only 1000x - you just lost 1000x.
Me and Jezza the only ones putting our necks above the parapet on this one?

:-) I had to ask Crookster :-) I can value and sell a 1million Euro house (I have a real-estate biz) but couldn't put a price on a picture hee hee.
I know some companies over here (Cyprus) can earn s**t loads, talking thousands, for modelling and rendering a new property development for a developer and they are no way as good as some of the guys on here. After my recent interior scene, I thought ai ai, maybe I'm onto something here, if I get to grips with exterior scenes that is, not many people wanting int scenes.
ps come on England!! :-)

Well, how's about Georgess,Crookster and Coombs (sounds like a Dickension Law firm!) set up a co-operative offering our expertise to the developers in Cyprus. We could blitz the building companies and dazzle them with our work. Get us contacts and we could put some literature together to send or email. Is that a good idea or what? I also produce brochures for property developers so we could offer that too. Sounds like a man with a plan to me!
Me and Crookster could come for a visit in Cyprus to discuss whatever and set it off as business expenses!!! ( what's Cypriat beer like?)
Cheers
Jeremy.
