Th 8 Core Mac is slightly slower than this :(
However I absolutely notice no DOF at all in either of the the renders when I do them. Especially the red chair in the back is crsip and sharp on both camera's...
Do I need to switch something to activate DOF in your file Franz?

Well I tested the scene as well on my Mac (Old G5 Dual 2.0) and I got DOF on both cameras. Make sure you are "in" the camera.

Akiefer:
in the vraybridge you must work in Centimeters :)
i'm sure that the problem can be this.
Cheers

Hi Renato,
Possibly yes but since I did not change anything in the file; I just opened and rendered how can I have these differences and others no?
And where do I change to centimers?

Just found it...

Happily Doffing away now ;)

A question:
Why is it that in the effects tab of the render settings, the DOF option is not checked and still you get the dof effect?

hi i am here,
in vray you have 2 way to work.
first with standard camera and all effect are drived by render parmeteres
second with phycamera, in this case the dof is drived by fstop, sspead and camera aperture.
the check in render settings is not necessary because we use the phycamera.

Hi Franz,
That's clear! Thanks very much.
I am eager to learn VRay as soon as possible. Some projects coming up that could really benefit from the new image quality.

These times you guys are reporting are crazy! I opened the file on a Dual 2 G5 PPC and it took over an hour to render. I'm gonna try it on my MacPro later at my studio, but an hour vs 2 mins seems like an absurd difference. Even with saved IR maps and Light Cache it took about 30min. Something is definitely awry. :(

EDIT: After unchecking the "Low thread Priority" button I got renders down to 26 min which seems a much closer ratio.
EDIT2: Ok. Tried it on my 8 Core at work... 2 minutes. I guess that's just the difference between 2 2Ghz PPC chips and 2 3Ghz Quad Intel Xeon chips.

The times are true though... Basically the MacPro 8core is roughly 300% faster than my 'old' quad core G5 system and with the times in my previous tests I had not even seen the priority checkmark so I might even chew off a few extra seconds. But all in all though stepping up to a newer system is fantastic for all the countless rendertests that take up the most time in processes like we 3D artists have to cycle through so those newer machines quickly pay themselves back in gained production time.

Tried one with the lens opened up (and shutter speed increased to compensate for too much light) so it's much blurrier

Added bokeh too, couldn't resist
