hi all!

i am spreading tongs HQ grass via jacks surfacespread on a deformed plane.

when ich render 50000 grass proxies, everything is fine, when i rise up the clonecount to 75000 to avoid areas with no grass, the CPU goes down to 20-25% while rendering the grass areas.

why? can anyone help?

thanks

if you use proxies make sure to raise the dynamic ram, if you dont use proxies this means you go short on physical ram....so c4d has to swap on virtual memeory which cant feed the cpu (best use proxies then)

Check your ram usage during render. It seems like ram is saturated.

If this is the case, increase dynamic memory limit.
If it's still the case ... Buy ram ...

dyamic ram was 8000 mb is now 16000 mb (like ram) but CPU is still at 20%

are you using proxies?
ram might still be low

also when using proxies make sure to scatter and instance of the proxy not the proxy itself otherwise you load it several thousands of times, that is not te usual way

try setting the limit to 0 so it can take all available, see that they dont intersect too much, that all textures are found fast usw. if the cpu is low it means it has to use the disk, for what ever setup reason or mow ram.

i think its the intersections of the chunks. but i need much grass, cause i dont wanna see spots with no grass

slight normal intersections do nothing, only very heavy intersections slow it downwith proxies

Steppes,

Could you solve your problem?

Stefan,

I got this same problem about intersections in proxies with Mograph (and possibly with paint on surface).
I bought Surface Spread recently and do not know how this manages intersections yet. Saying that, I wonder if it is always possible to control the level of intersections in both programs? In other words, how to control the landscaping population in a way that looks rich and crowded without risking to slow down the rendering process?

BTW. I am a maniac in inventing predictable systems to improve the process in my office.

All the best,

Diego

Hi Diego

for mograph

for surfacespread, i usually check max size of object and set it in minimum distance, since mine center of axis are always in centre of spreading object.

Tong,

Thanks so much for your advice!
