Dear users,
as MAXON announced their v13 update today, we are allowed to also announce the compatibility of VRAYforC4D for c4d v13.
the version 1.2.6 is running already in v13, so when MAXON releases v13 all vray user can already use vray with it.
best greeting

1.2.6 pre versions are as working beta available since longer time per request, actually many here use it already,
the official 1.2.6 will be released in forum before v13 is out (i prepare last things with renato and daniele for release)
cheers
stefan
off-topic, but will 1.2.6 also be available for R11.5?

Any chance someone has comparison notes of vRay vs R13 Physical renderer?
Performance / Features?

Any chance someone has comparison notes of vRay vs R13 Physical renderer?
Performance / Features?
how can it be "Physical" if is still has the same material setup ?
dof + CA doesn't make a render "Physical"
this post sounds like Olivia Newton-John .... :dance2:

I made quite some comparings yes, vray wins by far in all. Speed and quality wise.
For example I took 900 cubes via mograph, with simple displacement, physky, GI and SSS, idetical setups on both, vray was ready in 1,18min, AR i stopped after 7 min as it hasnt even started rendering(prepareds sss). This might be an evil example but does show the relation;-)
I can show at a later point some direct when v13 is public.
The new ar is for sure better than the old, i like it, and brings some long waited features to the internal engine, but it is not fast and not looking as vray or maxwell does. As ichione says - Physical is a very relative thing, it is a qmc based (bruteforce) engine, in that sense vray is a lot more physical based since long p.e.
Maybe see my comment on cgtalk or from thirdeye even about vray and 13:-)
Maxon did a great job in further improving c4d, v13 has some great features and feels much more fluent in interface than 12, but in no way is a real competitor to vray in this field. I guess that was also not maxons intention.
Cheers

It's good that Maxon concentrated on other things than the render engine. I'm really curious about the new muscle system and rigging. For renders, we have Vray :sun_bespectacled:

Yeah the New character Tools are awesome from what I've seen so far. I like to make characters and boning was no big problem either but the rigging..... In R13 this should be a piece of the cake. :-)
Peace,

r13 is public now so you can show, others are showing test renders.
Hey, don't shoot me for calling it physical... physical... oh Olivia.... anyways, I was calling it by what Maxon named for no other reason.
BTW, does vray (C4D) have rounded edges shader like Mental Ray? Or does one have to use Biomekk's edgeshader (if that is even supported by vray)?

I am under nda until v13 is released, and i wont breach it.
As v13 is only annouced but not released i wait until it is really out.
Vray has an edge round shader , it will come in v1.5 this year to c4d
if the bionek shader is made cpmpatible i dont know, as the developer if he hay made it vray compatible.
